Why ‘Saint’ Beagle?
Well firstly, Beagle is a pseudonym of mine. Secondly, the Bible tells us that all who are saved by Jesus substitutionary death on the cross are saints.
Put the two together and what do you have? Saint Beagle!
I was recently thinking about this verse myself, and it blows me away as well. I think the reason that the Macedonians could give so sacrificially (Ch8 v 1-8 – which I believe are some of the most challenging verses in Scripture) is because they actually got this truth! They knew that they were rich in Christ and that no-one could ever seperate them from the riches they had in knowing Christ Jesus for all eternity! This truth released them to be able to give sacrificially.
Knowing that Jesus, even though he was rich, became poor and humbled Himself to the point of death – even death on a Cross is such a pride crushing truth that I want the Lord to give me the grace to never let me forget what He did for me.
Iv’e been humming this hymn for a couple of days now as it reminds me of this truth:
Thou who wast rich beyond all splendour,
All for love’s sake becamest poor;
Thrones for a manger didst surrender,
Sapphire-paved courts for stable floor.
Thou who wast rich beyond all splendour,
All for love’s sake becomes poor.
Thou who art God beyond all praising,
All for love’s sake becamest man;
Stooping so low, but sinners raising
Heavenwards by thine eternal plan.
Thou who art God beyond all praising,
All for love’s sake becamest man.
Thou who art love beyond all telling,
Saviour and King, we worship thee.
Emmanuel, within us dwelling,
Make us what thou wouldst have us be.
Thou who art love beyond all telling,
Saviour and King, we worship thee.
Thankyou Lord for sacrificing thrones for a manger, and sapphire-paved courts for stable floor, and hands to nails, for a wretch like me.
Lest I forget Gethsemane – lead me to Calvary.
We’ve been heading towards a decision over the last few days, a decision that I think most of us have been feeling for the last few weeks. We’ve decided that for various reasons, it’s time to call The proGnosis a day and end the blog…well, not quite yet anyway! Our situations have changed vastly since we began in [...]
