Preping Noah pt4.

25 Jun

I’m currently trying to figure out how I’m going to preach Noah’s sin when he left the ark.

The last few weeks through our preaching and small groups we’ve really been hitting home in people that God saves his people into both legal and lifestyle righteousness.

Faith that fails? The problem being that when we as Christians continue to fall short of God’s perfect standard we do one of a few things.

  1. We think we’re saved by Grace but maintained by works. Like Jesus’ death was enough to give us a 2nd go at living for God.
  2. We think that because we don’t do ‘all that God commanded’ that we aren’t actually saved. ‘Surely if I’m saved then I’ll perfectly obey God like Noah did. That’s the faith God gives isn’t it?’

Hebrews 11&12 takes a side swipe at it as it commends ‘great men and women of faith’ from the Old Testemant. The only thing being that when we read more about these people it kind of reads like a whose who of folks that have let God down. Ch12 v2 clears it up though,

“look to Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith…”

Wowee. In one breath we’re told to throw of sin in the next we’re told that it’s all of Christ! I love tensions in the Christian life. This is one of them. But what a glorious tension it is!

If you’ve any thoughts then please let me know in the comments.

I went for, “Naked man sins with fruit” (again)

Everything is repeating – having seen another Man on a mountain at the centre of an unformed world… the flood has rewound the clock, but sin remains and worsens… something more is needed.
