ESV for iPhone

19 Mar

For anyone with an iPhone who doesn’t know already, ESV have just released their own app. No more needing to be in a 3G/Wi-Fi area to read a decent translation, this bad boy is right there on the phone.

The app is pretty slick, it moves nicely and looks pretty sharp. Remembering this is version 1.0 I’d expect improvements in both these departments in the not to distant future.

A few smart features are the ability to highlight verses and make notes about verses. These stay on your phone until you decide to delete them so it’s like having a pen with a rubber by your Bible.

You can also tweet verses directly from the app. This is limited to one verse at a time (i.e. you can’t tweet Romans 8:1-5) but that’s more to do with the 140 character limit on twitter than a flaw in the app.  (Apologies, if you check the comments apparently you can!)

If you’ve got an iPhone then get it, it’s free. But don;t think it’s going to replace your paper and ink equivalent.

If you don’t have an iPhone, get one not for the app, just get one anyway…then get the app.

    Hi!

Great post! Your review of it is awesome! Just one thing I wanted to pass along: you can actually share multiple verses by tapping and holding on a verse, tapping Details, and sharing via Twitter there. That way if you want to share multiple verses, you should be able to! Hope this helps!

      Thanks Hillary,

You are indeed correct. In the words of Alexander, “Shimples!”
