Early Church

26 Mar

There’s a not so secret longing in the Church today. A longing that’s advocated by those who love their churches and those who have really had enough. “Let’s be more like the early Church.”

It’s a good longing to have.

But there’s also a massive desire to have society love our churches as well…and I couldn’t think of a less ‘early church’ phenomenon.

In the early Church believers weren’t only subjected to persecution from the state but personal ridicule for some, if not all, of their beliefs.

This crazy notion that the church has become ‘institutionalised’ and that’s why people aren’t that keen on it is in truth ridiculous. The Church is the place where the Gospel is made know. This is NOT popular. Neither were the early Church.

My point? Be careful what you wish for and make sure any wishing is done with rose tinted spectacles removed.

So you’re saying the early church didn’t have it all figured out, as some would have us believe?

Agree big time, they were churches that needed constant correction…a hallmark of churches ever since!
